Family Home Remodeling – Two Projects at Once Open Up More Space
Meet the Ryans: Jack and Tricia Ryan live in a traditional two-story red brick home, built in the 1920s, in Wyoming, Ohio. With three youngsters at home, the Ryans wanted to gain more living space without increasing the home’s “footprint” – or altering its essential character.
The Ryans had heard about DeVol Construction Services from a friend who had requested a bid for home remodeling but had chosen to work with someone else… yet was impressed enough with DeVol’s presentation to recommend them to the Ryans. DeVol completed the family home remodeling project (two projects simultaneously) in three months during the summer of 2006.
What was done: To gain additional “family room” for the Ryans’ family of five, DeVol remodeled the basement, and converted an existing screened-in porch into a study.
One of the reasons the Ryans chose DeVol: “Jeff integrated architect services for our project,” according to Tricia. “Brian was involved right from the start. Instead of having an independent architect work on his own, then have to show his plans to the remodeler, at DeVol, everything is coordinated. That makes the design process much more cost-efficient, and saves time, too. What’s more, the architect was always available, ensuring that all work was completed to his exact specifications.”
How it was done: “DeVol worked to keep disruption to a minimum,” says Tricia. “They always told us ahead of time what they were doing, and coordinated the work schedule with our vacation. They even tried to keep disruption down during our baby’s nap time.”
“They were incredibly respectful of us and our home. They picked up after themselves, and took off their shoes when entering other areas of the house. We hardly even knew they were there.”
“One of our children has asthma,” adds Tricia. “They covered all the ducts with plastic, and banned all smoking on the property – not just inside the house, but outside as well.”
The quality shows: “They were sensitive to the design and details of our home,” says Tricia. “They maintained the integrity of all the woodwork. You’d never know the study was once a porch… People have stopped by to comment on the quality of the work.”
“Jeff is very detail-oriented, even in follow-up. He wants everything to be done to perfection, right down to the last detail. We never had to ask or complain… He does things with an attitude of integrity and perfection.”
“The finished product exceeds our expectations. We are already recommending DeVol to others.”
Going the extra mile: Tricia cites a couple examples of how DeVol Construction Services and its contractors went above and beyond the call to deliver great service. “We have a family dog. They took steps to make sure nothing happened to the dog, even in our absence.” (Both Jack and Tricia work outside the home.)
“Our air conditioning unit died while they were working there, through no fault of their own. Jeff let us know right away, and then called in his A/C guy to take care of it.”
